Install and set up

Install from the Theme Store

  1. Open the Shopify Theme Store and find Lacquer.
  2. Click Try theme. Lacquer installs to your store as an unpublished theme.
  3. From the Shopify admin, go to Online Store → Themes.
  4. Find Lacquer in the Theme library section.
  5. Click Customize to open the theme editor.

You can run Lacquer side-by-side with your current published theme. Nothing on your storefront changes until you click Publish.

Load demo content

Lacquer's installation includes a single preset configured with sample copy, placeholder images, and section settings tuned to the theme's intended register. New stores see the preset on first install. If you've customized the theme and want to start over, you can reset by deleting the theme from Theme library and reinstalling.

The preset is a starting point, not a finished store. Replace placeholder images with your own product photography, swap sample copy for your own language, and adjust color schemes and typography to match your brand. The Customizing guide covers the customization surfaces.

Add your products

Lacquer expects products with:

  • At least 3 product images per product. The gallery layout assumes media depth. Single-image products will render but feel thin.
  • Filled-out product descriptions. The editorial product layout treats the description as the primary content surface. Short descriptions read as missing copy, not minimal copy.
  • Variants where appropriate — colorway, size, edition. Lacquer's variant picker supports radio, pill, and swatch rendering.
  • Collections. Group products into editions, categories, or drops. Collection pages are configured to handle 12–48 products well.

Configure essential sections

Before publishing, walk through these sections in the theme editor:

  • Header — Set your logo, configure the desktop and mobile navigation, choose whether the header is sticky.
  • Footer — Add your support and policy links, social handles, newsletter form.
  • Homepage slideshow or hero — Replace placeholder images and copy with your own.
  • Featured collection — Point at your most important collection (latest drop, bestsellers).
  • Announcement bar — Optional. Use for shipping cutoffs, drop dates, or restock notes.

First publish

When you're ready:

  1. From the theme editor, click Save to commit your changes to the draft theme.
  2. Return to Online Store → Themes.
  3. Click Actions → Publish on the Lacquer theme.
  4. Confirm. Your storefront switches to Lacquer immediately.
